Join on us our journey as we exchange letters providing support on our juice feast. Inspired by the movie, "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead," we begin our juice feast on November 4, 2013.

Day 16 of 60
So today I feel raw, not inspired. I only lost two more pounds last week. Seriously! Two pounds! I haven't cheated once, I am only eating veges, fruits, pumpkin seeds, and almonds. I walk 7 miles to-and-from work, 4 days per week. On Saturday I ran 2.3 miles, and on Sunday I ran 3 miles! Who the heck doesn't lose a lot of weight doing that! Me, apparently.
I am not loving juicing today. I am sick of veges, I want a damn steak. I want eggs. I want sausage (mind-out-of-the-gutter-Deonne). BUT, I want 40 pounds gone more. So I will run more. I will walk further. I will eat less fruit and more stickin' green leafy stuff.
Kiss my *ss fat, you're leaving whether you like it or not. You are no longer invited to hang around.

Day 13 of 60
Hellooooo!!!!!
I am still here, sorry I have been busy so I haven't posted. Juicing is still going good, but I added vegetable soup (recipe below). I have been SO COLD, the kind of cold where you can't get warm even in the shower. So, S made me soup! We only cooked it a little so all the veges were still crunchy and "raw"-ish. I am so glad I did, I finally got warm.
Onion - 1
water - 1/2 C
Green Pepper - 1
Mushrooms - 4C
Celery - 2 Stalks
Crushed Garlic - 2T
Garlic - 6 Whole Cloves
Yellow Squash - 2 Small
Green Beans - 1/2 lbs
Fresh Oregano - 1 oz
Cumin - 1/2t
Coriander - 1/2t
Salt and Pepper - To Taste
Vegetable Broth - 50 oz
In a stock pot put water, onion, and green pepper cook for 5 minutes. Add the rest of the veges and broth. Cook on medium for 20 minutes and remove from heat. YUM! We aren't following Joe exactly, but it's still working I am losing weight and feel awesome.
I found better "Before" picture. I already don't look this heavy. :)

Day 11 of 45
Yesterday was great and horrible all at the same time. From about 5 pm on I had a killer headache and major munchies when J popped some popcorn (thanks a lot) J-man! But it's rewarding to do hard things. Especially when I stepped on the scale this morning. I'm down almost 6 lbs from day 1. That's encouraging. I actually really enjoy the lemonade cleanse - the flavor is great and you don't have to worry or think about what you'll be eating.
How are things going for you, Beth?

Day 10 of 45
Today I'm starting doing my 3-day lemonade cleanse (lemon juice from fresh lemons with grade-B organic maple syrup). I wanted to get this in before I have company for the weekend. That's going to be a trickier time for juicing. A has his Eagle Court of Honor on Sunday so I have family visiting. Preparing food and feeding guests while on this juice feast? I'm going to have to put some strategies in place.
I'm so proud of you for losing 6 pounds! I lost 4 which is strange because a day or two earlier I had lost 5. But of course I'm happy with 4. The social aspect of eating is huge and I too have found that I just want to pull away and have limited my social interaction. I've turned down dates because our society links food and entertainment so closely together. I'm going to have to give that some additional thought and let that sink in.
Off to go drink some lemonade. Cheers!

Day 9 of 60
It has been a rough couple of days, as you know. My car was broken into on Sunday in broad day light. They broke the driver's side window and stole my purse. I lost my iPad, iPhone, new purse, new wallet, make up, and all my debit/credit cards. Not to mention $26.00.
I think I discovered through all of this, I am not an emotional eater. My cravings/hunger wasn't affected at all. I have just been frustrated, angry, felt violated, and closing all my cards and bank accounts has been a big pain in the backside.
I have realized I am a social eater/drinker. I love to sit and talk over a meal. I miss eating with S and the kids. I like to experience food and all that happens when we prepare/eat it. I see people at work get their lunches and sit around and chat, I feel like an outcast. I also have realized that the reason I have never liked to cook is somewhere in my sub-concious is inscribed "People who cook are fat" and I don't want to be fat, therefore, I hate to cook. I discovered this because I have had a big urge to cook since I have been on our juice feast. I keep thinking "Oh! I could make this and I could make that and it won't make me fat because I can't eat any of it." I guess there's something to work through there. :)
I am not hungry anymore, I even forget to juice. I am bored, like I said I enjoy the culture around food and I am missing out on that. It'll be worth it, I lost 6 pounds last week. SIX! I would take a picture, but oh wait someone stole my camera too because it was in my phone. Thanks, moron-who-stole-my-purse.

Day 7 of 60
Hi Deonne,
I found some great info on Fitnea.com. I only pasted the fruits and veges we might use for juicing, but they have info on a lot of fruits and veges.
Avocados - Do you love avocados so much you would put slices of them on just about any food you eat? There’s no reason to feel guilty about doing this, especially because this is such a great food for you to eat. Avocados are packed full of antioxidants, including glutathione. This detoxes the body by transporting harmful toxins right out of it. By reducing the chemicals and toxins in your body you will be healthier and feel better.
Cranberries - These might be great for preventing urinary tract infections, but they can also get rid of toxins inside of your body. These get rid of waste from the body and are antibacterial so they remove toxins.
Lemons – These are great in drinks and recipes, but they are also packed full of vitamins and antioxidants. These protect the liver and they get rid of chemicals inside of the body. Consuming lemons on a regular basis can improve health.
Garlic – Packed full of sulfur, this is another great food to use for body cleanses. It also has antibiotic properties so it can help internally heal your body. There are a lot of advantages to eating garlic on a regular basis; it’s even available in supplement form!
Beets – These can be incorporated into a lot of different recipes or they can be eaten raw. They are full of betaine and pectin, which help protect the liver and the digestive system. These can cleanse the body so you have fewer toxins.
Grapefruit – This fruit helps cleanse the digestive system and it can prevent kidney stones from developing. It’s also low in natural sugars and calories, so it’s great for dieting.
Other Goodies - Look what I found out about coconut oil, holy cow! I am adding this to my juice recipes. It helps with weight loss, IBS (M has that), and fights wrinkles! Also, Coconut oil contains the type of triglycerides we need for instant energy when exercising. This would be great on runs or long bike rides. :) Also, this one will interest you - it works like Neosporin on a cut! It helps the wound heal and kills bacteria. I am going to go to Majestic Mountain Sage next time I visit you. I love that store.
I just found this site, Fitnea, it's full of information on different foods and their benefits. I love info like this. I'll post more goodies when I find them.
How's your juicing going? How's the man-fast? I am proud of you for taking a dating break. It was the best thing I could have done the first year after I was divorced. Men are fantastic people, I am rather imparshal (I live with 3 of them). But it's important to be grounded and inlove with yourself before focusing on someone else.
Day 6 of 45
It's been a couple of rough days. I realized today that I'm definitely an emotional eater. I had a challenging morning with one of my kids and felt like I "deserved" a treat as compensation. This juicing has really made things clearer for me how eating is so closely linked to other aspects of our lives. I've been working through Marianne Williamson's book, "A Course In Weight Loss" and have found some of the exercises helpful. I'm only on Chapter 3 but I plan on doing about a chapter every two or three days which will have me completely the book about the time our juicing is done. Perfect timing and yes, that was planned.
I'm loving the green juices still although this morning I put a half a beet, carrot, and other yummies in there. I still try to stick to just one or two fruits (apple, pear, kiwi etc.) with some lemon or lime, ginger, and then lots of veggies (kale, collard greens, lettuce, zucchini, cucumber, etc.) Did I tell you I bought some cranberries? Those were tasty!
And again - so bummed I didn't get my Bountiful Baskets ordered on time. I'm setting an alarm on my phone to order one Monday.
I can see how weekends will be more challenging. Kids are home and want their traditional meals. This morning I made them toast and eggs and it wasn't too bad to sit there sipping on my drink. Tomorrow might be more challenging because I typically make a nice Sunday dinner and try to have some quality family time.
Sorry I've been a slacker on posting. Major win though, I've found a system that will work for my To Do list. It's been a struggle and I'm so happy to have found a solution that works for me. I can share more details later. And I've made some major progress in my own personal development - some breakthroughs happening for sure.
Hugs to you, my sista from another mista. :)

Day 6 of 60 (1/10 of the way done) :)
Deonne,
I have been craving every kind of meat imaginable today. I would kill for sausage. S is making the
boys salmon, oh I wish I could have some. So, I guess today has not been an enjoyable fast day....
On Jan 3, 2014 I am having sausage. I am a carnivore at heart. Do you think I could juice a sausage link?
I just found out I will be going with my mom. sisters and families to ID for Christmas for a week to stay in a house together. Yay! Sounds fun, but I am a little nervous about juicing through that time. I am going to bring my juicer, a cooler of veges, and an iron will - wish me luck. My family is really health conscious and will be supportive, but my taste buds may not be. Pumpkin pie - maybe I can run that through my juicer?
I noticed today that my ears are draining a lot. Are your's?
I have been so hungry today. Grrr. Everyone said I wouldn't be hungry after day 3.
Well, I am sitting here trying to think of something witty to say, but I think I will leave the beautiful posts up to you. I will just keep posting my experiences through this journey, like draining ears and stories about kids who keep stealing my juice machine.

Day 5 of 60
Hi sista'-from-anotha'-motha'! (That doesn't work as well as brotha' from anotha' motha' does it?)
How are you doing today? It's been cake for me. (Cake? Who said cake? Can I juice it?)
I actually worked from home today, I caught some kind of a bug that gives you a horrible headache. I know it's not from detoxing because S had it yesterday and was home, J had it, M had it, and my boss had it. It lasts for two days. Ugh.
Even though I have been home all day, I haven't been hungry. I think that is so weird. My whole body feels so good though, clean. If anyone ever goes on a cruise or somewhere else where they have been eating like they have never seen food before, they should do a 3-day juice feast. It really works.
I am getting borded with my standard kale-carrot-celery-apple-ginger-lemon drink. Here is what I am going to try tomorrow:
Pomegranate-Blueberry Juice
1 cup pomegranate seeds
2 cups blueberries
Water
Beet-Orange Juice
2 navel oranges
3 red beets
Apple-Cantaloupe-Honeydew Juice
2 apples
1/2 cantaloupe
1/2 honeydew
6 to 8 kale leaves
6 to 8 Swiss chard leaves
I found all of these on Williams-Sonoma's blog. (Awesome Blog!) There's a lot more yummy fruity recipes too, I am trying to limit fruit so I will try the others in 55 days.
Well, my headache's-a-roarin' so I am gonna get goin'....

Hi!
I am doing so so much better today! Water is the key. It has made a huge difference, today (even though it is only 11:00am) I have already drank 70 ounces. My goal is 250 ounces per day.
Guess what else?! I lost 1.5lbs yesterday! Woot-Woot! My jeans fit differently this morning (can this really be happening this fast?)
I discovered a weird trick. I usually drink the juice immediately, I basically guzzle it down right after I make it. But today I....
I wrote this post yesterday and..... apparently got busy. LOL. I am posting it today as is. :D

Day 4 of 45
My youngest son had a nightmare last night so he came into my bed about 6 am. The nightmare? I was being hit with fireballs during my marriage to his dad while wearing bunny PJs. Disturbing on so many levels. Lol. Even crazier? He said this is a reoccurring nightmare with the only difference being the pajamas I wear. What?
And what does that have to do with my juice feast/man fast? Sometimes it feels like a nightmare too. I'm surprised that my favorite juice is green! I made the little kids grape juice for lunch and they really enjoyed that. Tonight I tried apple juice for all the kids and they weren't too hip and it turned brown fairly quickly. I used a little of the leftover apple juice to sweet my green drink with kale, kiwis, ginger, lime, lettuce & celery. It was quite tasty and I can usually nurse it for an hour or so. Not too hungry as I'm writing this post at 9 pm - so yeah!
My biggest win for the day was my yoga class. It was a beautiful experience! Today we had a substitute teacher with two students - me and the teacher's sister. :) The teacher was brilliant and there was such great energy in the studio. I loved being able to observe the interaction between the two sisters as this was the first time the one sister had watched her sister teach. I'm so thankful for experiences like today! I also felt inspired on some life direction - more on that later.
Beth, thanks for joining me on this journey. You're awesome! And I'm so blessed to have YOU in my life!

Day 3 of 45
Dear Beth,
I'm doing much better at drinking water today. Yeah! And I've committed to making this a juice feast and man fast. :) Any pending relationships have either been put on hold or terminated AND I no longer have an online presence in the dating world. I want to take these next few months and focus on me, my health, my children and my business. Watch out world! :)
This morning's juice wasn't too exciting... cucumber, kale, lettuce, apple, lime, kiwi, and ginger. It was large enough that it held me over until dinner. Time to go make some deliciousness. :)

Day 3 of 60 (maybe)
Hi,
All I can say about today is UGH! I have had a HORRIBLE headache all day, I can't even fathom running (even though I do it everyday), and I have been dragging through work. I guess we are feeling EXACTLY the way we are supposed to at this point, hang in there. I am right there with you.
I haven't been trying different juices, I have been sticking with the carrot/cucumber/kale/apple/ginger/lemon mixture. Although at work I haven't been able to juice, so I eat one or two of those veges for lunch. I also supplement with the organic pumpkin seeds we bought at Natural Philosophy in Logan, UT. I know it's not what Joe does, but I walk 7 miles a day (round trip to and from work), and try to run every morning.
I love the detox bath recipe! Thank you! Can I buy those oils from you? I am not sure when I will be near your neck of the woods next, maybe I can give you my cc number and you can mail them to me?
On a happy note I did lose 6 oz yesterday. It's probably all water, but whatever, I'll take it. :)

Day 2 of 45
Dear Beth,
I found a couple of recipes for a detox bath and tried this one out...
Essential oils:
I found a couple of recipes for a detox bath and tried this one out...
Essential oils:
4 drops rosemary
4 drops grapefruit
4 drops lemongrass
4 drops wild orange
8 drops lavender
1/2 to 1 cup Epsom salt
It was detoxing and perhaps I should've held off. I've felt lethargic and tired most of the day. I found today's juicing less exciting although I did crave a green juice at the end of the night. That's good. The pumpkin juice yesterday wasn't as great as I had hoped. And I'm actually wondering if I'm drinking too much juice.
I've decided I need to drink at least 88 ounces of water each day. I have a great 22-ounce LifeFactory water bottle that I love! I'll drink one before breakfast, one before lunch, one before dinner and one after dinner.
Yours in health,
Deonne

Day 2 of 60...
Good Morning!
So, we said we were going to be "raw" not only by what we eat but by what we post. So there it is, I weighed myself this morning and there it is...
Losing 40 pounds will put me at 157, that would be great! I want to be at 145, but I'll take a win at 157.
Something unexpected is happening thanks to our juice feast in my household. My kids and S are totally getting into it! J had three apples, two bananas, 1/2 a lemon, and two oranges for breakfast this morning - juicing them of course. M had a hot pocket, BUT he also made a smoothie with strawberries and drank about 1/4 of my veggie drink! That's got to be better than a hot pocket and a coke for breakfast right? And he is 14, if he knows I want him to drink veggie drinks he's going to dig in his heals. LOL
S and I had the following recipe for dinner and breakfast this morning:
4 apples
6 carrots
thumb size of ginger
3 handfuls of kale
(no cucumber - I'm out)
4 stalks of celery
parsley
1 lemon
It made a lot but we drank it all!
I feel really good this morning and haven't been hungry at all. According to the article, The Different Juice Fasting Stages of Detoxification, on izocleanse hunger can be intense and we should be lathargic, but I feel great. My joints are soar though.

Yeah, I need a pedicure.
I don't have a lot of full body pictures of me because I am self conscious of the way I look. But here's at least one to remember my starting point. By the way, this is the most comfy couch in the whole world! It's at Ikea.
Talk to you soon!

Day 1 of 60
Hey Deonne!
How'd it go this morning? I had kale, spinach, cucumber, lemon, ginger, parsley, and apples (there may be some other stuff, I don't remember). I made a lot though because S said he wants to do this with us! Woot-Woot! I even got J (13) to drink some.
On the way to work I was craving a cinnamon bun and pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks. Why-oh-why did we do this during pumpkin spice latte season????
Today for lunch I am going to eat an avocado and pumpkin seeds, I was running late and couldn't make a juice to bring with me. But that still RAW right?
Good luck today, Deonne! I am right here with ya!
Beth
Sidenote:
This is stuff Deonne already knows about me but if anyone else reads our little blog it may be helpful to know we are real people. I am a 38 year old mom of two boys (ages 14 and 13), I work for a company in SLC, UT, and have a beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog named Henry (yeah, I had to include him).
I have always been active and at times even athletic, but I am 40 pounds over weight. I am 6' tall so it's not as noticeable on me as on shorter women, but I know it's there. I run Ragnar (200 mile relay race), 1/2 marathons a few times per year, and want to get into biking with Deonne. I can do all of these things, eat healthy (most of the time) and still not drop a pound. I have hypothyroidism and am on Synthroid. I would like to get off the Synthroid and have my thyroid function properly.
Deonne and I have both watched Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead by Joe Cross. It was so inspiring to me, he truly changed his life and those he touched while in America. So that's where we got this idea. We still haven't agreed upon an exact amount of time for our "juice feast" - I want 60 days and Deonne wants 45 so we'll see.......
BTW, Deonne is the writer, not me. I will write and be brutally honest, but look for beauty in her letters, not mine. :)

Day 1 of 45
Dear Beth,
Lesson learned this morning - don't add green onion to juice. Other than that, I think it would've been delicious. Carrots, apples, kale, lettuce, cucumber, and lime essential oil. I'm so excited to be on this journey together and am looking forward to hearing how things go for you today.
I purchased Bountiful Baskets last week anticipating enjoying my new Hurom Slow Juicer from Costco but now I'm feeling like I should've ordered two baskets! Crazy how fast you can go through produce when you're juicing but I'm LOVING it!
Guess what I'm having for lunch? Pumpkin Pie Juice from Reboot with Joe. I'm so excited I've found his website with recipes!

Day 0
Beth is making her last lunch before the juice feast. Who would choose Kraft Macaroni and Cheese as one of their last meals? LOL! I'm thinking a big, fat burger from ... well, we don't really have a good burger joint here but almost anything is better than Mac & Cheese.
